Grilled Trout Recipe with Saffron Butter





This is as simple as cooking trout gets, but still delicious. You can even get your fish monger to remove the trouts head and tail if preferred.

Grilled Trout – Ingredients

  • 2 Rainbow trout fillets (1/2 lb each)
  • 75g Butter (Salted)
  • Saffron 1 tsp

Grilled Trout Recipe – Preparation

Fresh water fish is delicious and subtle in flavor. The worst thing to do is to add a whole heap of additional strong flavors that will mask the  subtle rich taste to the trouts flesh. I find that a little salt helps to bring out the flavors, which is why i have suggested using salted butter (as opposed to unsalted).

Step one, gently melt the butter and add in the saffron. cook gently for 3 minutes, without allowing the butter to burn.

Step two, place the trout fillet on a  grill pan and brush liberally with the melted saffron butter.

Step three, cook under a medium grill. Every 2 minutes take the fish out and brush again with the saffron butter, pouring the remaining fluid over the fish just before the final phase of cooking. in total, trout fillets usually take about 10 – 15 minutes to cook through. Just ensure that the flesh is flaking and non-translucent.

This trout recipe also works beautifully when barbecuing.

 

Cooking Time: 15 – 20 mins
Serves: 1 fillet per person

This trout recipe is perfection with some nice warm crusty bread, crisp fresh green vegetables and a glass of medium white wine.
